Holiday lights create ‘Illumination Garden’ at Orange library

The Delaware County District Library (DCDL) Orange Branch has transformed the Imagination Garden into the “Illumination Garden” for the holiday season, with the help of thousands of twinkling lights and a donation from Meijer.

Located at the Orange Branch Library, 7171 Gooding Blvd., Delaware, the Illumination Garden will be on display every night from dusk to dawn now through the end of January. Guiding the path through the garden are lit trees, snowmen, and even an appearance by Santa’s sleigh and reindeer.

“I have been at the Orange Branch Library since it opened in 2011 and have watched the Imagination Garden grow over the years. This is the first year where the trees are big enough to decorate and I wanted to do something spectacular for our amazing community,” said Mary Lawson, organizer of the Illumination Garden display. “The garden is a great place for our patrons to come and spend an afternoon or just pass through.”

This inaugural year of the Illumination Garden is provided by a $1,000 donation from Meijer.

“Without Meijer’s gracious donation, this project would not have happened,” Lawson said. “We plan to continue the Illumination Garden each year around the same time, adding more lights to make it a focal point for our community and Delaware County District Library for years to come.”

Patrons will continue to feel the holiday spirit at the other DCDL locations throughout December. The Delaware Main Library decks the mezzanine with garland and bulbs, and features dioramas of Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and the nativity scene.

Powell Branch Library features a donated set of holiday houses and a book creation of Olaf the snowman from Disney’s animated film Frozen. Ostrander Branch Library showcases handmade, glittering trees, ice skaters and penguins throughout the library.
