Genoa phone survey before Thanksgiving

A phone survey of Genoa Township residents will be conducted before Thanksgiving, according to township officials.

During last week’s Genoa Township trustees’ meeting, a resident asked trustees about a pending phone survey related to the township’s comprehensive master plan update. Would members of the community be notified before the survey? And how will the survey results be communicated to the community?

Township Development & Zoning Director Joe Shafer said the survey would be conducted before Thanksgiving.

“On the advice of the surveyor, the survey will not be advertised,” Shafer said. “Our surveyor said too much information out there could skew the results.”

Shafer said survey results would be released as a PowerPoint presentation at or near the Dec. 3 trustees’ meeting.

In other business, township Police Chief Steve Gammill asked trustees to approve the purchase of three additional automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to carry in township police cruisers. Gammill said the department has two AEDs, but often has five cruisers on the road.

“We typically have one AED in a cruiser on each side of Hoover Reservoir,” Gammill said. “It’s necessary to purchase three more so there will be one in each cruiser on the street.”

Trustees agreed to purchase three AEDs from Physio-Control at $2,500 each, using money from the police department capital fund.

Asked if training was required to use the devices, Gammill said there is training but the units prompt users what to do, and will not shock a patient’s heart if a heartbeat is detected.

Fire Chief Gary Honeycutt asked trustees to approve the purchase of a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe for $38,655 to replace an aging 2002 Ford pickup.

“The usual replacement schedule is seven years,” Honeycutt said. “This is from Taylor Chevrolet. It’s a multi-purpose vehicle with an 8,400-pound towing capacity.”

Honeycutt said delivery in would be in April. Trustees approved the request.

Honeycutt also asked trustees to approve the purchase of a 2016 Ford SUV for $25,805 to replace the current chief’s vehicle. It also was approved.

Both vehicles are at state bid pricing, and both would be purchased with money from the fire department capital fund.
