Board approves 2017-2018 calendar

The Delaware City Schools Board of Education approved its proposed calendar for the 2017-2018 school year during its Monday night meeting.

The proposed calendar was submitted for discussion at a meeting in November and the Board of Education accepted public input for 30 days before approving it.

Important dates on the proposed calendar are:

Aug. 16 – First day of school

Sept. 4 – Day off for Labor Day

Sept. 21-22 – No school for Little Brown Jug/Delaware County Fair

Oct. 20 – No school for teacher in-service day

Nov. 22-24 No school for Thanksgiving Break

Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 – No school for Winter Break

Jan. 15 – No school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Feb. 16 – No school

Feb. 19 – No school for President’s Day

March 12 – No school for teacher in-service day

March 30-April 6 – no school for spring break

May 30 – Last day of school

In other business, the board:

• Approved three student trips; the GMVWA Holiday Wrestling Tournament from Dec. 26 to Dec. 28, the Alliance Top Gun Wrestling Tournament from Jan. 12 to Jan. 14, and the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament from March 9 to March 11.

• Approved the resignation of Amanda Hooper, a custodian at Willis and David Hyatt, a classified substitute for the district. The board also approved the retirement of Margaret O’Brien, a maintenance worker for the district.

• Approved the employment of Bethany Naegele, an educational assistant at Schultz.

• Accepted a donation of $3,026 from the Delaware Rotary Foundation.
