Brooke Setmire has been crowned Sunbury’s bicentennial princess.
The village’s bicentennial is in 2016. Annual events throughout the village’s 200th birthday year will have a bicentennial theme, and several events are planned specifically for the bicentennial.
Sunbury’s birthday party kicked off the afternoon of Dec. 5 with the bicentennial princess pageant on the second floor of Town Hall, with 13 young ladies vying for the princess crown.
Following introductions, contestants participated in a talent show and a fashion show. Following a brief intermission, while judges huddled and tallied scores, three finalists were selected and entered a question and answer phase.
Judges said selection was difficult and that each finalist was separated from the others by only a point or two. When the proverbial dust settled, Brooke was crowned princess. Emma Wheeler was first runner-up and Adriana Knickerbocker was second runner-up.
As Sunbury’s bicentennial princess, Brooke will represent the village during all bicentennial events during the year ahead.
Brooke began her reign as bicentennial princess by riding in a convertible during Saturday evening’s “Christmas on the Square” parade.
