Road opens ahead of schedule

A portion of State Route 315 is open five days early.

“ODOT is impressed that SR 315 south of 750 to Jewett Road is opening ahead of schedule. It is a direct result of four different utility companies, two different tree trimming companies, their subcontractors, ODOT and the contractor working in concert with each other and not missing a beat,” said Nancy Burton, spokesperson.

“The weather helped a little,” Burton said.

The road opened Friday afternoon.

Ceremony returns to Fallen Heroes Memorial

A tradition started in Arlington National Cemetery will again take place in Sunbury this year, as Ohio Gold Star families gather at the Ohio Fallen Heroes Memorial to honor those killed in the war on terror.

The OFHM Memorial Committee will gather on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 4 to 5:30 pm to place red roses on the markers honoring Ohioans who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

“This is one of the reasons we created the Memorial,” said Jim Bernholtz, OFHM President. “We wanted to provide a place, close to home, where Ohio families could come and honor their loved ones.”

The Ohio Fallen Heroes Memorial, located in Sunbury, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded and established in 2005 by several local Veterans who had a vision to build a beautiful tribute to all of the men and women in uniform from Ohio who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending America in the global war on terrorism since Sept. 11, 2001.
