Raffle tickets are now on sale for The Hamburger Inn’s “Ugly Sweater Party” on Sunday — with proceeds of the event going to charity.

Ashley Bianchi, assistant general manager at The Hamburger Inn, said Thursday that the raffle tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5, and that all the proceeds from the tickets go to Delaware County People In Need, the agency that helps families that are struggling financially because of circumstances, like joblessness or illness.

Bianchi said this is the first year for the event but The Hamburger Inn has gotten lots of support from the community and especially downtown businesses. Ugly sweaters are encouraged.

“We have the best community,” Bianchi said. “This year we really wanted to give back as much as we could.”

Bianchi said The Hamburger Inn reached out to other local businesses and got support from many of the downtown restaurants and stores who donated gift cards or memorabilia for the raffle.

The raffle winners will be announced at 9 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can currently only be bought at The Hamburger Inn but they will also be on sale at the event right up until the winners are announced.

Bianchi said you don’t have to be present to receive the prizes. Bianchi said the winners will also be announced on Facebook Monday morning and the winners will be called.

“I hope everyone can come out,” Bianchi said.

If the event goes well, Bianchi said she hopes the event will become a holiday tradition and gain more and more support.

The Hamburger Inn will also be donating a dollar to charity for every dessert it sells during the event.

Bianchi added that employees at The Hamburger Inn have been participating in “Casual Friday” events where they can wear whatever they want if they make a $5 donation.

Bianchi said the list of involved businesses includes Typhoon Asian Fusion Bistro, Amato’s Woodfired Pizza, Something Sweet Coffee, Fundamentals Parent Teacher Bookstore, The Backstretch, Pat’s Record/Endangered Species, The Bare Bowl, Son Of Thurman, Delaware County District Library, Strand Theatre, Whit’s Frozen Custard and Anytime Fitness.

Bianchi said The Hamburger Inn also collected coats, hats and gloves for People In Need’s Holiday Clearing House event that took place on Dec. 12. Delaware families were able to pick out groceries, clothes and toys for the holidays at the Delaware County Fairground coliseum.
