A Westerville man accused of raping a Lewis Center woman is set for trial on March 8 in Delaware County Common Pleas Court.

Mohammad Ahmad Mustafa, 36, of 396 Westgreen Lane, Westerville, entered a not guilty plea on Dec. 9 to two counts of rape, first-degree felonies; two counts of kidnapping, first-degree felonies; and a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

Judge Everett Krueger presided over the arraignment and set bond in the amount of $75,000.

A trial was scheduled for March 8.

Westerville police said that on Dec. 12, 2014, a 25-year-old Lewis Center woman called them to allege that she had been raped by Mustafa.

The woman reportedly told police she had met Mustafa a few days earlier and the pair had begun to send text messages back and forth. On the night of Dec. 12, she agreed to go to Mustafa’s home on Westgreen Lane and the pair were watching a movie when he began to make advances on her.

Police said Mustafa forced the woman to perform oral sex on him and took her to the bedroom before attempting to have vaginal sex with her. The woman told police she pushed him off of her and ran to the bathroom where she texted a friend to call the police, but received no reply.

Police said the victim tried to record Mustafa on her phone, but he took it and she ran from the house.

She then ran from the home and knocked on a neighbor’s door to report the crime. The woman also told police when they arrived that her coat, bra, underwear and shoes were on the hood of her car and said that Mustafa put them there and left her cell phone in her coat pocket.

Westerville police said Mustafa has denied the charges and said that she removed her clothes voluntarily before the pair had an argument and she left. Mustafa told Westerville police that he did take the phone when she tried to record them during their fight but he said he returned it immediately.

Mustafa posted bail and was released from the Delaware County Jail on Dec. 11.
