The Delaware County Diabetes Association has received a $2,000 grant from the Healthcare Foundation of Delaware County.

The funds will be used for diabetic education, as well as scholarships to Camp Hamwi, a Central Ohio summer camp for children and adolescents, ages 7-17, with diabetes.

“We are so grateful to receive support to re-establish scholarships to Camp Hamwi,” said Dr. Jane Graebner, DCDA board president and a podiatrist at the Foot & Ankle Wellness Center (FAAWC) in Delaware. “We hope to see this program grow over the coming years.”

The DCDA board is accepting applications for scholarships that will pay for two-thirds of the fee for Camp Hamwi. Scholarships will be awarded based on an essay written by applicants stating why they want to go to the camp; they are not based on need. The deadline to submit is Tuesday, April 25, and you can email [email protected] for an application.

The DCDA also announced a new partnership that will merge two local events that have kept the community active for years. The YMCA and DCDA will join forces Oct. 28 for the Pumpkin Run & Sweet Feat Walk at Mingo Park in Delaware, with a Trunk or Treat event afterward.

Proceeds from the City of Delaware event will benefit the YMCA’s Healthy Weight and Your Child program.

More details about the event will be announced as they become available.
