Delaware County commissioners to appoint acting administrator today

Delaware County commissioners are expected to appoint an acting county administrator this morning.

The commission meeting will be held in the commissioners’ hearing room at 101 N. Sandusky St. and will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Dawn Huston, the assistant county administrator, said Friday that commissioners will consider a resolution to appoint her as the acting county administrator but she said the duties will be split between herself and Si Kille, a fellow assistant administrator.

Commissioners will be appointing the acting administrator to fill the position for when the current county administrator, Tim Hansley, retires on Jan. 15, and the acting administrator will serve until a permanent replacement can be found.

Huston has worked as assistant county administrator since February 2013 and as the director of administrative services for the county since January 2011.

Hansley, the county administrator since November 2010, has spent more than 45 years as a public servant.

Hansley’s retirement was based on “a variety of factors,” Commission President Gary Merrell said in a statement issued by commissioners last month.

A county administrator is responsible for many of the county’s day-to-day administrative operations. The administrator is appointed and attends commission meetings, but does not vote.

Commissioners will also select its own president and vice president for 2016 at Monday’s meeting.

Commissioners will also designate the official representative and alternate for the purpose of voting at the annual meeting of the County Commissioners’ Association of Ohio for 2016.

Commissioners will also consider approving a number of contracts and agreements.

Later, commissioners will have a viewing for consideration of the Fancher Road watershed drainage improvement petition from Harlem Township at 1:30 p.m.

Commissioners have also scheduled special sessions on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and on Wednesday at 8 a.m. Commissioners will go into closed executive sessions each day for consideration of employment and compensation of a public employee or official at both meetings.

The next regular commission meeting will be on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
