Riverview Park’s fate will be discussed at the Delaware Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Tuesday night.

After 9/11, security measures were put into place at the 25-acre park because it was located near the water treatment plant, 3080 U.S. Route 23. Such measures have reduced turnout.

The city may remove playground equipment and transform into a prairie, said Parks and Natural Resources Director Ted Miller.

“I doubt it would be anything but a green space,” he said at the board’s Feb. 21 meeting.

Some of the park’s space would be reserved for future expansions of the plant, he added.

In other business, United Way of Delaware County will give a presentation of a proposed agreement to have “Born Learning Trails” at some of the city’s parks. The concept offers 10 activity stations at a park’s existing trails to encourage families to get active and interact with each other, while building a child’s pre-literacy, motor and problem-solving skills.

Miller said Blue Limestone Park and the Spray and Play at Veterans Park are being considered for the activity. It would not be a permanent addition.

If approved, the stations would remain in place from May to June 2021.

The board will meet at City Hall, 1 S. Sandusky St., 7 p.m. in council chambers.
