Buckeye Valley School District has started the construction bidding process for the district’s two new elementary buildings, Superintendent Andrew Miller said Wednesday.

“It’s just taking a bit longer to finalize the budget, making slight revisions to the plans and establishing phasing plans with students on site at Buckeye Valley East,” Miller said. He said the district is “anticipating to start moving dirt and construction by April 1.”

Earlier Miller had said that “subcontractor bidding was planned for February and construction for mid-March.”

Throughout the process the district has keep the community involved on the two new elementary schools. The district asked the local communities to help with the naming of the buildings.

Miller said about 50 names had been submitted for the new buildings. “Most of the names centered around historical figures from the area and the waterways around the school district,” he said.

The district’s advisory committee narrowed down the names and created an online survey through Surveymonkey. Residents an cast their vote for their favorite names.

Construction of the two new school buildings was made possible with the passage of a $31.25 million bond issue November 2015. The issue passed by two votes.

District officials said the budget for each building includes site development, the building of each with all systems and finishes.

The projected cost for BV East in Ashley is $11.6 million, which will serve 475 students.

The projected cost for the BV West to be built near Bellpoint is $13.6 million and the school will serve 625 students.

Officials said additional costs for the project include architectural and engineering fees, construction manager fees, testing, agency approvals fees and legal costs. Those costs for BV East are projected to be $2 million. The additional costs for BV West are expected to be $2.3 million.

District officials said the goal is to complete the project in time for the 2018-19 school year.
