Members of the Big Walnut Board of Education held their 2015 reorganization meeting Jan. 7.

As their first order of business, board members unanimously approved a motion for Mindy Meyer to serve as the 2016 board president, and Andy Wecker as vice president. Meyer and Wecker served as board president and VP during 2015.

During 2016, Meyer will also serve as the district’s representative on the Sunbury/Big Walnut Joint Venture Agreement Committee, Community for Eagle Pride Committee (formerly the ABC Committee), liaise with Trenton Township and the village of Galena, serve on the board’s records retention committee, and be the board’s representative at Big Walnut Intermediate School.

Wecker will serve as the board’s representative on the Economic Development Committee, serve as the board’s liaison with Berkshire, Kingston and Porter townships, and be the board’s representative at Harrison Street Elementary School.

Board member Allison Fagan will serve as the board’s 2016 Ohio School Boards Association legislative liaison, serve on the board’s insurance committee and facilities planning committee, liaise with Harlem Township, and represent the board at Hylen Souders Elementary School and Big Walnut High School.

Board member Brad Schneider will serve as the OSBA legislative liaison alternate, serve on the board’s facilities planning committee, liaise with the village of Sunbury, serve as the Sunbury Meadows Community Authority representative, and represent the board at Big Walnut Elementary School and General Rosecrans Elementary School.

Board members also approved membership in the OSBA and the Metropolitan Educational Council.

The Metropolitan Educational Council is a purchasing consortium of school districts and related agencies that identifies, plans, and provides its members services that can be more effectively achieved in a cooperative endeavor – such as natural gas and school bus fuel purchasing. The 2016 membership fee will be $1,400.

Board members also approved a motion moving monthly board of education meetings to the third Thursday of every month.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, in the Big Walnut High School media center.
