Appliance pickup for seniors available

The Senior Appliance Pickup service is again available to older adults looking to rid themselves of any old appliances, televisions and computer equipment. Appliances will be collected through the end of May and will start again in September until funding is depleted.

This marks the 13th year for this Delaware General Health District Keep Delaware County Beautiful program, which is funded by SourcePoint. The service is free and available to all Delaware County adults age 55 and older.

The pickup service was developed to prevent injuries that could be sustained from lifting or falling while trying to move appliances or computer components. The Health District contracts with a moving company to pick up large, bulky or heavy items from a resident’s home and deliver them to Friction Metals.

This service also allows for many of the materials to be recycled rather than go directly to a landfill. There is a limit of two televisions per household.

In 2016, this services allowed for 95 senior households to have 108 appliances and 87 televisions picked up.
