Escaped inmate in custody after pursuit

An escaped inmate is in custody following a chase early Tuesday evening.

Troy Brandon Tyler Byrd, 29 was arrested by City of Delaware Police. Byrd was sentenced to SEPTA Correctional Facility in Nelsonville, Ohio, on charges of possession of heroin.

According to Delaware police, Byrd was recognized as a passenger in a vehicle near the Dollar General store on London Road around 6:30 p.m.

Officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver continued driving on London Road and US 42 South, according to police. The pursuit reached speeds of 60 miles per hour and ended inside Union County near the US 42 and US 33 interchange.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, and deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the pursuit.

Byrd was taken to the Delaware County Jail where he will await arraignment. Officials are talking with the driver of the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

He had escaped April 1, a news release states. Two other inmates, David G. Skeens and Justin Delano Stanley, went missing the night before, but have since been apprehended.
