Eastside Mission Church prepares to expand

The Eastside Mission Church, an interdenominational church located at 32 Joy Ave. in Delaware, kicked off its newest expansion project on April 2 with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by about 100 worshippers.

“The church thanks the good Lord for the blessings he has laid upon the congregation and their community,” Pastor Donnie B. Akers said.

Following the success of the church’s 2016 project in which a new parking lot was installed across the street, this year’s expansion project involves enlarging the foyer, restrooms and sanctuary.

With seven denominations represented every Sunday morning, Akers said the expansion was a necessary blessing as the mission has seen attendance rise over the past several years.

“The next five months will be a time of excitement and challenges as the building is under progress,” he said. “The church welcomes all to be part of this growing church community.”

The Eastside Mission Church’s weekly schedule includes Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., Sunday worship at 10:45 a.m., Sunday evening service at 6 p.m., and Wednesday prayer meeting/youth group at 7 p.m.

In addition to the weekly services, the church hosts Bible study every first and third Tuesday of the month, a men’s breakfast the first Saturday of the month at 9 a.m., and a Women’s Christian Warriors meeting on the Saturday of the month at 10 a.m.

On Sunday, April 16, the church will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., and the Easter worship service at 10:45 a.m. At the conclusion of the worship service, the church will hold its annual Easter egg hunt.
