Memorial tennis tournament, auction planned

The 11th anniversary of Jami Wilson Memorial Tennis Tournament & Silent Auction happens this weekend.

The two-day event to honor Wilson’s life and passions happen includes a free pre-tournament party on Friday from 7-10 p.m. at Blend of Seven Winery features a silent auction and live performance from 3 Of A Kind.

“Come support this wonderful cause and enjoy an evening of friends, live music, food and drinks and many fantastic generously donated auction items,” a news release states.

The tennis on Saturday is a non-sanctioned doubles tournament, including Men’s, Women’s, 45 and Over, Mixed and Under 18 categories. Each team is guaranteed three 8-game sets with no-ad scoring.

The cost is $35 per person, good for any 2 categories, water, pizza and salad lunch from Shorty’s Cuisine and a giveaway. The tournament runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Rain date is Sunday. All proceeds go to the Jami G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund, managed through the Delaware County Foundation. This is a scholarship awarded to one Hayes High School senior each year to aid in post-secondary education expenses and to memorialize Jami’s dedication to education.

Jami was a Hayes graduate and tennis coach, Ohio State graduate and Conger Elementary teacher who was devoted to teaching both in the classroom and through her life experiences.

She died in 2000 after a courageous battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
