Powell woman dies in motorcycle crash

A Powell resident died following a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Marion County.

According to troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Cheryl A. Hollinger, 60, of Powell, died at Marion General Hospital from injuries she suffered in the wreck. Troopers said the motorycle on which Cheryl Hollinger was a passenger struck a deer along State Route 98 in Scott Township located in northeastern Marion County.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.

A press release issued by the Marion Post states that Paul W. Hollinger, 50, of Powell, was driving a 2017 Harley Davidson bike south on SR 98 when the crash occurred at 9:40 p.m. Saturday. A deer attempted to cross the roadway and Hollinger’s motorcycle struck the animal and went off the right side of the road.

Troopers report that Paul Hollinger overcorrected and then the bike slid off the left side of the roadway, coming to rest in a ditch.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Hollinger were transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment. Mrs. Hollinger died at the hopsital while receiving treatment for her injuries. No information regarding Mr. Hollinger’s condition was available.

Neither of the Hollingers was wearing a helmet and alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the wreck, according to troopers.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Township EMS, and 1st Consolidated EMS assisted the Highway Patrol at the scene.
