The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for an area that includes Delaware County. The watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Friday.
According to the NWS Wilmington office, showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon, with storms likely to persist into the evening hours. Due to the very moist environment, these storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall. Several areas have already received heavy rain, which will only make it easier for additional flash flooding to occur.
In addition to Delaware, counties in the watch area include Franklin, Champaign, Licking, Madison, Union, Adams, Auglaize, Brown, Butler, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Fairfield, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Hardin, Highland, Hocking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Pickaway, Pike, Preble, Ross, Scioto, Shelby, and Warren.
The weather service advises people in the watch area to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for immediate action should heavy rains and flooding occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued. Avoid low-lying areas, and be careful when approaching highway dips and underpasses.
