Brats N’ Bluegrass July 28

Warrensburg United Methodist Church is hosting Brats ‘N Bluegrass from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 28. Attendees can enjoy a complimentary dinner and the music of the Redeye String Band. The church is located at 1025 State Route 257 South, between State Route 37 and U.S. Route 36.

Jazz At The Amp continues

Jazz at the Amp, a free jazz series, runs Saturdays in July and August in the Westerville Amphitheater, Alum Creek Park, 221 W. Main St., Westerville.

IRONMAN 70.3 Ohio is back

IRONMAN 70.3 Ohio returns for a second year on Sunday, July 30. The event starts with a 1.2-mile swim at Delaware State Park. Athletes will then continue on with a 56-mile bike ride through Marion, Morrow, and Delaware Counties. Once completed with the bike athletes will get off their bikes at Selby Stadium where they will run 13.1 miles in the city of Delaware. The finish and expo will all be held at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium. The expo is set for Friday, July 28 from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Registration is still open. U.S. 23-Hills Miller Road to reopen July 31

Hills-Miller Road will re-open July 31, Speedway has told the City of Delaware. The estimated completion date had been July 20, but weather and unforeseen site conditions have delayed work, according to Speedway, which is upgrading the intersection as part of its new store project on U.S. 23 North. The Hills Miller Road closure from U.S. 23 to Bruce Road will remain in place as well. Traffic is being detoured utilizing Coover Road and Troy Road.

Rep. Brenner to Hold District Office Hours

State Rep. Andrew Brenner (R-Powell) will hold district office hours on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the community meeting room at the Orange Branch of the Delaware County District Library, located at 7171 Gooding Boulevard, Delaware. Drinks and snacks will be available.

All constituents are welcome to attend these office hours. If you are unable to attend office hours, please contact Rep. Brenner’s office to schedule another meeting time.

Farm Pesticide Disposal day

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a collection for farmers wishing to dispose of unwanted pesticides on Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delaware County Fairgrounds (entrance off U.S. 23), 236 Pennsylvania Ave.

The pesticide collection and disposal service is free. Only farm chemicals will be accepted. Paint, antifreeze, solvents, and household or non-farm pesticides will not be accepted.

Pesticide collections are sponsored by the department in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. To pre-register, or for more information, contact the Ohio Department of Agriculture at 614-728-6987.

Benefit in the Barn is back

Benefit in the Barn is a celebration of agriculture and music with proceeds benefitting partners of the Delaware County Hunger Alliance. It’s scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Dawson Farms, 2831 Bowtown Road, Delaware. It includes a special performance by the Central Ohio Symphony plus dinner catered by City Barbeque and a cash bar. Ostrander Senior Citizens to meet

Ostrander Senior Citizens will have a picnic at noon on Thursday, July 27 at the Ostrander Community Building. The Meeks will provide entertainment.

Ice cream social Friday

An ice cream social will be held Friday, July 28, from 4:30-7 p.m. at West Berlin Presbyterian Church, 2911 Berlin Station Road. Food for a complete meal plus many varieties of ice cream will be available.

3 B’s and K Road closed until Friday

3 B’s and K Road will be closed between Sherman Road (south of 36/37) and the roundabout at Cheshire Road. Local traffic only will have access to the road during this time period. Visit www.BerkshireTwp.org for information.

County Commissioners to Consider Purchase of DACC North Campus

The Delaware County Board of Commissioners will consider and vote on a contract to purchase the Delaware Area Career Center’s North Campus during their session Thursday, July 27. The session begins at 9:30 a.m. in the hearing room of the Commissioners Building, 101 N. Sandusky St., Delaware.

The DACC’s Board of Education approved the terms of the contract at its July 20 meeting and now goes before the Commissioners for consideration. A price of $1.77 million is proposed for the purchase of the 63.6-acre property located at 1610 State Route 521, just north of U.S. Route 36/State Route 37. The property includes the 147,000-square-foot North Campus facility, the original portions of which were built in 1974.

Polaris Live Summer Concert Series

Polaris Lifestyle Center is hosting Polaris Live, a free summer concert series, every Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. near Barnes & Noble and The Cheesecake Factory. Following is the schedule: July 27 – Mojoflo; Aug. 3 – Naked Karate Girls; Aug. 10 – The Reaganomics; Aug. 17 – Make up date for cancelled concer.

Seating for the concerts is open-lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Please note, no sporting equipment, coolers, alcoholic beverages, picnic tables, balloons, pets or smoking is permitted.

Attendees can purchase adult beverages from two local charities with all proceeds benefiting the charities’ causes.

Ulery Road closed for work

The Delaware County Engineer’s Office reports that Ulery Road in Porter Township is closed due to construction work. The road will be shut down until July 28 as crews conduct a culvert replacement project. The stretch of Ulery Road between Trimmer Road and Olive Green Road will be closed.

Olentangy Trail closing for work

A portion of the Olentangy Trail under Interstate 270 will close Aug. 1 through Nov. 1, weather permitting, to complete construction on new ramps and bridges at the I-270/SR 315 interchange.

Strings in Sunbury

As part of its Summer Solstice Music Festival, the Central Ohio Symphony Chamber Strings will perform at the Sunbury Community Library on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. The Library is located at 44 Burrer Drive in Sunbury.

Union-Heffner intersection closed

Columbia Gas is closing the intersection of Union Street and Heffner Street, between Fountain Avenue and Sandusky Street, through Aug. 14. Columbia Gas will be boring under U.S. 23 in that area. A detour will be posted to assist motorists around the project area. Public questions may be directed to the Customer Service Request Line at 740-203-1810.

Cheshire Road closed for construction

The Delaware County Engineer reports that part of Cheshire Road will be closed until Tuesday, Aug. 15 for a construction project. The stretch of Cheshire from Tara Glen Drive to Gregory Road will be closed to traffic during the road-widening project, which is being conducted by Park Enterprise Construction.

Summer Splash & Cookout

Sunbury United Methodist Church will host Summer Splash & Cookout from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 20 at its shelterhouse. The free event includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon and snow cones, and games like croquet, horseshoes, and badminton. Music by Contact. In the case of inclement weather all food and dry activities will be moved inside, but all water activities will be cancelled.
