Ashley Corn Show returns for another year

The Ashley Corn Show returns with its traditional family-friendly atmosphere and entertainment this weekend.

The show’s roots go back to the 1930s, said Scott Lucas of the American Legion Post 518, which organizes the event.

“It’s been going on for a long, long time,” he said.

The event is open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday on Main Street in Ashley.

The free event features a variety of attractions including live bands, mobile blood drive, carnival rides, antique tractors, FFA Kiddie tractor pull, and corn-eating-related contests.

Not much has changed for the event over the past few years, Lucas said. The Legion will continue to have its traditional chicken dinners on Friday and Saturday, while serving pork loin sandwiches on Thursday.

Additionally, the event is usually a homecoming for Ashley natives who now live in other parts of the country, Lucas said. It becomes a reunion for friends and families.

Funds raised during the event are used to help the Legion’s efforts to benefit local youth activities.

“We’re basically reinvesting back into the community,” Lucas said.
