Insurance specialists from SourcePoint will teach “New to Medicare” classes this month in Delaware, Sunbury, Ashley. All Delaware County residents who are interested in learning more about Medicare and their options are welcome to attend.

Upcoming classes include: Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at SourcePoint, 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware; Friday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sunbury Community Library, 44 Burrer Drive, Sunbury; and Monday, Aug. 28, 10 a.m. to noon at Ashley Villa Apartments, 240 S. Main St. in Ashley.

Older adults should take the New to Medicare class just before or during their seven-month Initial Enrollment Period. The IEP includes three months before the individual’s 65th birthday, the month of, and three months afterwards. Enrollment in Medicare is automatic if an individual gets Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits prior to being 65.

The free class provides useful information regarding traditional Medicare (Parts A&B), Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C), and Prescription Drug Plans (Part D), as well as Medicare supplements, which can help cover the gaps in traditional Medicare.
