Pet Walk headlines September First Friday

0

Downtown Delaware will be filled with bulldogs, bulldozers, and a few caped crusaders Sept. 1 as part of Main Street Delaware’s monthly First Friday celebration.

The evening will include the sixth annual pet walk, a hands-on display of equipment used by the City of Delaware Public Works Department, and a preview of Delaware County District Library’s upcoming comic-con.

Main Street Delaware’s September First Friday also will feature a celebration at Ohio Living Sarah Moore, 47 E. William St., which is commemorating 125 years of caring in the community. The facility will give away dog treats and human treats (hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, brownies, and lemonade) during First Friday, provide tours of its facility and make a brief presentation at 6 p.m.

Also during First Friday, Delaware County District Library will preview its second annual comic-con, “The Great GeekFest,” which will be held Oct. 21 at the Main Library, 84 E. Winter St.

To get in the “geeky” spirit, the library will award a prize basket to the “geekiest pet” that comes dressed in costume to the pet walk. Superdog, hot dog, “Harry Dogger” — any costume counts. In addition, the library will have posed photo opportunities in its downtown tent with Wonder Woman, Spiderman, and other superheroes throughout the First Friday celebration, held each month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the historic downtown.

For pet parents who want to take part in the walk — a ticketed treat walk through the downtown — tickets are $10 per pet and available online now at www.mainstreetdelaware.com. A pet walk ticket nets pets a treasure map to businesses providing special treats along with a doggie bag to collect their loot.

The pet walk will step off from the Main Street Delaware tent at Sandusky and Winter streets. Registered pets will be photographed as they check-in for posting in a Main Street Delaware Facebook album. The pet receiving the most “likes” will be named “Furry Marshal” of Main Street Delaware’s upcoming Christmas Parade. (Facebook voters also will pick the library’s “geekiest pet.”)

The Sept. 1 First Friday celebration is sponsored by Performance Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Delaware, by the Delaware County District Library, and by Ohio Living Sarah Moore.
