The Delaware County Democratic Party is taking new steps to encourage voter registration in advance of the November election.
“Delaware County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in Ohio, and we need our elected officials to represent the diversity of our community,” said Peg Watkins, chairperson of the Delaware County Democratic Party. “Our community benefits the most when everyone’s voice is heard. That only happens when we register and vote.”
The deadline to vote in the November election is Oct. 9. Early voting begins Oct. 10 in advance of election day on Nov. 6. Full registration details are at https://boardofelections.co.delaware.oh.us, and the process takes just a few minutes.
Watkins said interest in helping the party’s full slate of candidates has “exponentially grown” in the last 12 months with people seeking more choice in political leadership.
“We saw tremendous interest in the August special election and a historic voting shift,” Watkins said. “We also met many people who didn’t register to vote in time and want to make sure everyone has a chance to have their voice heard this November.”
Volunteers are out daily pushing registration and supporting candidates in the Ohio Senate, Ohio House of Representatives, county auditor and county commissioner races.
“Democrats, Republicans, and Independents agree: it’s time for a change,” said Louise Valentine, candidate for Ohio Senate District 19. “We are ready to reject pay-to-play politics at the statehouse and start fighting for Ohio families.”
Navy veteran and attorney Cory Hoffman is running for the Ohio House District 67 seat.
“I’m amazed how many people are sick of career politicians who just don’t seem to care about anything other than special interests,” Hoffman said. “The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9, and it’s everyone’s chance to show people how tired we are of business as usual in the statehouse.”
“Every vote matters,” added Indu Rajan, candidate for Delaware County auditor. “Voting allows us to come together and work toward a better and more responsible government.”
“Governments are supposed to serve citizens, not the other way around,” said Aileen Wagner, candidate for the Delaware County Board of Commissioners. “Let’s use election day to remind our current political leadership of that reality loud and clear.”
“Voting is a right, a privilege, and a responsibility,” said Kathleen Tate, candidate for Ohio House District 68. “If we want change, we need to vote responsibly by registering and learning about the candidates. I don’t want to lose my rights, so I vote and urge everyone else to do so.”
