Sunbury truck crash causes power outage

Hundreds of Sunbury residents were without power Wednesday afternoon after a truck hit a pole Wednesday morning.

Officials from AEP Ohio reported Wednesday afternoon that a large truck crashed into a pole at 98 E. Cherry St., Sunbury, at 10:40 a.m. AEP officials reported the initial outage affected 893 customers because the accident also caused “extensive” damage to underground wires in the area.

AEP reported it was able to restore power to 92 customers at 12:01 p.m. and another 73 customers’ power was restored at 1:30 p.m.

However, because the damage was so severe, AEP officials were predicting power would not be restored to the remaining 728 customers until 11 p.m. Wednesday.
