A jury returned a guilty verdict on drug charges against a Delaware man Friday after four-day jury trial.

Syamantaka Detamore, 38, of 6439 Taggart Road, Delaware, was found guilty on a charge of trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony, and possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

Delaware County Common Pleas Judge David Gormley set a sentencing date for March 14.

Assistant county prosecutor Brian Walter, who specializes in drug charges, said during his closing argument that Detamore is a professional drug dealer and that the drugs were found in a safe at a property Detamore owns. Detamore’s attorney, Sam Wiener, said the property was rented to someone else and that Detamore had nothing to do with the marijuana.

Walter also brought in bags containing more than 35 pounds of marijuana Friday during his closing arguments.

The jury returned the verdict Friday afternoon.

Wiener has filed a motion declaring a mistrial because two law enforcement witnesses refused to testify for the defense. Wiener’s motion said the two witnesses were part of a search of Detamore’s property and were essential to his defense.

Gormley had not ruled on the motion Monday afternoon.

Detamore was out on bond Monday, awaiting his sentencing.
