Each year members of the Sunbury Lions Club hold a Christmas tree sale on Sunbury Village Square to raise money to donate to Big Walnut Friends Who Share. On Jan. 25, Friends Who Share store manager Gene Wampler attended the January Lions Club meeting to accept this year’s $3,500 check.

“The Sunbury Lions Club always helps us out,” Wampler said. “This year we bought Christmas gifts for 208 children and provided Christmas for 38 seniors, in addition to the regular clients we serve each month.”

Wampler said Big Walnut Friends Who Share has had a great start to 2016 with donations like the check from the Sunbury Lions Club, plus food drives from Big Walnut schools and donations from different people in the community.

Lion Rick Eyman said this year the Sunbury Lions sold 360 Christmas trees and 20 wreaths, grossing $5,400.

“In addition to $3,500 for Friends Who Share, we raised another $1,900 for eyeglasses and other Lions Club community functions,” Eyman said. “We really appreciate the community’s support for our annual tree sales. It keeps money local where it can do good within our own community.”
