City names finalists for police chief

The City of Delaware announced Thursday the search for its next police chief has been narrowed down to two candidates: Mark McDonough and Adam Moore.

In a press release, the city said it hopes to appoint one of the finalists to the position after Labor Day.

McDonough has been the chief of police for the Whitehouse Police Department in Ohio since 2012. Prior to that role, he served as a patrol sergeant for the City of Bowling Green Police Department. He has 32 years of law enforcement experience, the city reported.

Moore is currently the interim chief of police for the City of Delaware, a position he was appointed to in May of this year. Moore has been a captain with the police department since 2012. He previously served as a sergeant, school resource officer, and patrol officer with the Delaware Police Department. Moore has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience, the city reported.

The release noted the next police chief will be the 13th in the city’s history.

Delaware began its selection process in June following the retirement of then-Chief Bruce Pijanowski, who left the position to become the assistant superintendent at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

“The top candidates emerged from a field of seven following interviews with a panel of community members, a police chief assessment exercise conducted by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, meetings with City department heads and union representatives, and one-on-one meetings with City Manager Tom Homan,” the city reported Thursday.

The two finalists will share their thoughts about the future of policing and public safety in Delaware at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 1. The live virtual discussion will be shown on the city’s website under the View Our Meetings link at delawareohio.net.
