The City of Delaware announced Monday that Capt. Adam Moore has been sworn in as the city’s new chief of police.
Moore, 45, has served as the interim chief of police since previous Chief Bruce Pijanowski retired from the position in May. He was sworn in as the new chief on Monday at City Hall and officially began serving as chief today.
City Manager Tom Homan, who made the appointment and administered Moore’s oath of office, said Monday that Moore was “the best candidate.”
“Throughout the process, Adam clearly showed he was ready for this new responsibility, and the best candidate to carry the department forward,” Homan said.
The city reported Moore was selected out of a pool of candidates from across the nation, and he emerged as the favorite from a field of seven finalists following community panel interviews, an assessment exercise conducted by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, meetings with department heads from throughout the city, union representatives, one-on-one meetings with Homan, a virtual discussion on various policing topics, and introductions to Delaware City Council members.
In a press release announcing the new police chief, the city noted Moore has more than 20 years experience in law enforcement. Moore has been a captain with the Delaware Police Department since 2012 and previously worked at the DPD as a sergeant, school resource officer, public information officer and patrol officer.
Moore holds a degree in criminology/sociology from The Ohio State University and a master’s in public safety from the University of Virginia. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program.
“It has been my honor to serve in this police department, and work and train with the very best,” Moore said. “I look forward to proudly serving as its next police chief.”
According to the city, Moore is the department’s 13th chef of police. The city announced there will be a badge-pinning ceremony for Moore later this month, but an exact date has yet to be made public.
The DPD, the city noted, has approximately 55 sworn officers and operates with an annual budget of roughly $12 million.
