The Delaware City Schools Board of Education approved staffing changes and supplemental contracts during its regular meeting Monday.

Among the staffing changes was the resignations of James Bouillon, a custodian at Hayes High School; Jennifer Button, a technology specialist at Carlisle Elementary; and Nikki Smith, a business specialist at Willis.

The board then approved numerous classified staff employments: Cindy Butts, a bus driver; Shawna Craft, a bus driver; Timothy Eads, a custodian; Brenda Fingerlow, an educational assistant at Conger Elementary; Kaitlin Isch; an educational assistant at Hayes; Brooke James; an educational assistant at Conger; LaDonna James, a temporary administrative assistant at Willis; Megan Latham; a bus driver; Valerie Matthews; a School Aged Child Care (SACC) program assistant at Schultz Elementary; Jean Messner, a SACC program assistant at Smith Elementary; Melanie Nelson; an educational assistant at Smith; Anna Porter, an educational assistant at Carlisle; Marianne Ruiz-Hernandez, a SACC program assistant at Conger; Amanda Sheline, an educational assistant at Dempsey Middle School; Bibiana Willis, a bus driver; and Jeannie Young, an educational assistant at Hayes.

Also approved during the meeting were several dozen supplemental contracts throughout the district for positions like mentor teacher, building level advisory leader, and coach.

At the end of the board meeting, the first since the semester began last month, student board member Meg Wolf spoke about the first few weeks of class.

“It’s been a really awesome start to the school year,” she said. “It almost feels back to normal.”

Wolf said the “biggest change” at Hayes has been the introduction of mandatory school-issued photo IDs.

“It has been a pretty smooth transition,” Wolf said before explaining that there are planned changes to improve the IDs. Specifically, Wolf said the IDs will be printed vertically and with the student’s first name printed larger for easier readability. She added the change “most wanted” by students is having the ID list their preferred name instead of their legal name.

“Mine says Margaret Wolf. I don’t go by Margaret, so it’ll say Meg instead,” Wolf said. “That will be a really good adjustment for the students at Hayes that don’t tend to go by the name that is printed on the ID.”

Wolf said she’s looking forward to the rest of the school year.

“I’m very grateful and excited to see what this year has in store for us,” she said.

The board will meet next at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.
