Jen Miller, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Ohio, will discuss “A Nonpartisan Defense of Democracy” when she presents Ohio Wesleyan University’s 2022 Benjamin F. Marsh Lecture Series on Public Affairs.

Miller will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in Benes Room B of OWU’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware.

Those who attend the free event will “hear about LWVO’s efforts to end partisan gerrymandering, defend voter rights, and encourage robust participation in the fall election, as well as how you can make a difference in our democracy,” said Miller, who has over 20 years of experience working with diverse communities to promote social justice and civic action.

“The League of Women Voters has been one of the foremost nonpartisan voter advocacy groups in Ohio and across the U.S.,” Miller said. “Born out of the women’s suffrage movement, the Ohio League has a proven century-long track record of securing pro-voter, pro-democracy policies in Ohio such as improving election integrity, securing funding for local Boards of Elections, and expanding access for historically-disenfranchised groups.

“In 2020 alone,” she said, “LWVO educated 1 million Ohioans about the power of their vote and voting logistics.”

Miller earned her master’s degree in arts policy, education, and administration through the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in vocal music and history and ethnic studies from Capital University.

Miller is a graduate of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Leadership Academy and a board member for the Ohio Debate Commission, the Ohio History Connection, and Kids Voting Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan’s Marsh Lecture series, begun in 2001, is coordinated by Ohio Wesleyan’s Department of Politics and Government and the Arneson Institute for Practical Politics and Public Affairs. During his lifetime, Marsh, a 1950 OWU graduate and attorney, held numerous political posts at local, state, and national levels, and served as registration supervisor and adjudicator for the U.S. Department of State to the Organization and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and as an election supervisor in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
