Nicole Fowles: ‘Plan for Your Stuff’ workshop June 5

0

Move over “Antiques Roadshow” and “American Picker” – a new program is coming to town on Sunday, June 5, at the Delaware main library. Have you ever wondered if the vase you inherited from your great-aunt Gertrude is worth anything? What about that set of “vintage” records you picked up at a garage sale?

Whether you think you’re sitting on a landmine of junk or treasure, you’ll want to attend the “Plan for Your Stuff” workshop and antiques appraisal. The event begins at 1 p.m. with a presentation from Andrew Richmond of Wipiak Consulting & Appraisals. He’ll discuss how to create a plan for your stuff and will cover planning tips, when and how to get an appraisal, and ways to sell your personal property.

Then, from 2 to 4 p.m., Andrew will conduct a two-hour appraisal fair. All portions of the afternoon are free and open to the public, but individuals are asked to register in advance for a time slot during the appraisal fair. Registration can be made by calling the Delaware main library at 740-362-3861, emailing [email protected], or stopping by the library’s information desk to sign up.

If you can’t make it out on Sunday, you can still catch Andrew on Tuesday, June 7, at the main library with a 7:30 p.m. presentation he’s offering, sponsored by the Delaware County Genealogical Society. That evening, he’ll present “Ohio Furniture 101: An Introduction to Styles and Cultural Groups, 1788-1888.”

Have a happy Memorial Day weekend and stay safe while you enjoy the company of friends, family and memories of those who have served in the nation’s armed forces. All Delaware County District Library locations will be closed on Monday, but you can stop by today or Sunday to pick up materials and browse some of the new titles in the audiobook section. Here are a few:

• “15th Affair” by James Patterson. When an alluring blonde with links to the CIA disappears from the scene of a brutal murder at a luxury hotel, detective Lindsay Boxer is forced to uncover difficult truths about her husband’s secret life.

• “The Girl from Summer Hill” by Jude Deveraux. Clashing with a gorgeous Hollywood star who is playing Darcy in a local production of “Pride & Prejudice,” Casey, a chef who puts her career first and who believes the actor’s brother-in-law’s damning claims, finds herself becoming attracted to him in spite of herself.

• “Modern Lovers” by Emma Straub. Three friends and former college bandmates struggle with the poignant midlife difficulties of managing the sexuality, independence and secrets of their young-adult children against painful memories of a friend who soared and fell without them.

• “Robert B. Parker’s Slow Burn” by Ace Atkins. When a firefighter is ostracized for claiming that a deadly three-alarm blaze was set by an arsonist, Spenser discovers that the fire may be linked to a string of new arsons plaguing one of Boston’s oldest neighborhoods.

• “Troublemaker” by Linda Howard. Sent to a remote location in a small West Virginia mountain town to lay low after almost being killed in an ambush, Morgan Yancy finds his attraction to part-time police chief and housemate Isabeau Maran adds an unexpected complication to his life.
