Nicole Fowles: Library inks new tech partnership

“The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art.” That quote was said by John Lasseter, the chief creative officer at Pixar Animation Studios, and an American animator and film director. Lasseter started his career as early as 1986 with “The Great Mouse Detective” and more recently has produced such hits as “Frozen,” “Inside Out” and “Finding Dory.”

Technology as a force for good has been an ever-driving force behind libraries. When eBooks first came on the scene, libraries embraced them. Similarly, you may see libraries introducing more Blu-Ray discs into the collection, and they’ll certainly have more DVDs than videotapes.

Libraries are also constantly listening to our patrons. We hear many of our community members saying they want personalized recommendations, programs that fit the needs of their families, and access to the library in a way that matches their lifestyle.

That’s why at the Delaware County District Library we’ve begun a partnership with Third Chapter Partners, a technology and marketing consultancy group that focuses specifically on libraries and patron needs. If you’re an adult who has given your email address to DCDL, in the coming week you’ll be receiving an email from DCDL Director George Needham asking for your opinions. It’s a five-question survey that should take only a moment of your time, which serves to help us better tailor our services to your wishes. If you don’t have an email address on file at DCDL, the next time you stop in, let us know and we’ll use it to occasionally keep in touch.

It is important to stress that your privacy is of the utmost importance to us at DCDL and your information will never be sold, shared or rented to others. Additionally, if you choose to opt out of these communications, you will still receive your regular emails or texts letting you know the status of materials you’ve requested.

We are excited about this new venture with Third Chapter Partners and we are looking forward to launching this new technology. After all, the better we know you, the better we can serve you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email Needham at [email protected].
