Letter to the editor: Willow Brooks supports career center levy

0

To the editor:

I urge Delaware County voters to support the renewal levy for the Delaware Area Career Center.

Our Willow Brook Christian Village retirement community has worked in partnership with the center for several years. Together, we provide learning opportunities on Willow Brook’s campus for young people with developmental disabilities, teaching them job skills and social strategies.

I have been impressed with the teachers who, with great sensitivity, encourage the growth and development of young people struggling to find the right place in life.

But the career center’s reach goes far beyond young people with special needs. Many jobs do not need a college diploma, but do require specialized training and education. It is in that arena that the Delaware Area Career Center shines.

They train plumbers, carpenters, IT specialists, healthcare workers and graphic designers, among others, and launch them on a path toward a lifelong career or college.

The career center’s levy, up for renewal on the Nov. 3 ballot, will not add any new taxes, but will enable the center to continue its vital work for Delaware County.

Please join Willow Brook in supporting the renewal levy.
