Buckeye Valley blanks Johnstown, 2-0

The Buckeye Valley boys soccer team scored a goal in each half on the way to a solid 2-0 non-league win over host Johnstown on Monday night.

The Barons played from in front most of the way, taking an early 1-0 lead when J.P. Seliskar intercepted a clearance attempt and ripped a shot into the back of the net from about 18 yards out in the seventh minute.

Things stayed that way until early in the second half, when Kaiden Coup scored off a nice feed from Brayden Fox on a restart in the 51st minute.

The defense took care of the rest, allowing just one shot on goal all game long. Treyden Williams made a diving save on the one shot he saw to collect the shutout.

“We played hard for the full 80 minutes tonight,” BV coach Eric Staley said. “This was our best performance this season, so far. The guys in the back line (Nathan Reynolds, Michael Riley, Jacob Eliason and Paxton Rockwell) really did a great job of limiting Johnstown’s chances.”

Buckeye Valley, which improved to 4-3-0 with the win, returns to action Wednesday against host Worthington Christian.
