Patriot girls, Pioneer boys shine at Bear Den Dash

Olentangy Liberty’s Julia Bockenstette nabbed runner-up honors and Olentangy Orange’s Brooke Chapman finished sixth to lead area runners at the Bear Den Dash, hosted by Olentangy Berlin Saturday in Delaware.

Bockenstette cruised around the 5,000-meter course in 18:39.50 — a mark second only to Dublin Jerome’s Milly Leonard, who took top honors in 18:11.30.

Chapman, meanwhile, finished in 18:59 while Liberty’s Elena Aldrink earned a spot in the top 10, too, finishing ninth among individuals in 19:05.80.

The Patriots, who also got solid showings from Madeline Pohmer (14th in 19:33.60) and Sasha Stanfield (15th in 19:36.20), closed second overall with a team total of 76.

Jerome won with 46 points while Marysville smoothed out the top three with 93. Gahanna Lincoln (117 points), Big Walnut (143) and Orange (149) also finished among the top half of the 17-team field.

Other standouts include Olentangy Berlin’s Grace Dahlke (17th in 19:42) and Big Walnut’s Addie Zielinski (18th in 19:43.20) and Natalie Ghering (22nd in 19:50.70).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Olentangy Orange cracked the top three to lead area teams at Saturday’s Bear Den Dash at Olentangy Berlin.

Saketh Rudraraju led the third-place Pioneers, finishing seventh among the nearly 200 individual runners in action with an effort of 15:28.60.

Orange’s Matthew Schroff and Luke Woolard were also steady, closing 15th and 27th with respective times of 15:54.30 and 16:10.30.

Big Walnut, led by Emil Stanford (29th in 16:10.80), finished 14th overall with a team total of 365. Olentangy Berlin, boosted by Matthew Cool (30th in 16:12.10), finished 15th with 369 points; and Olentangy Liberty, thanks in part to Shrey Mhaskar (58th in 16:38.70), closed 19th with a score of 444.

GIRLS SOCCER

Four different players scored as Olentangy Orange improved to 11-1-2 on the season with a 5-0 non-league win over host Lexington Monday night.

Haylee Prime found the back of the net twice while Kaelyn Valleau, Lauryn Barringer and Ava Otey also scored in the win.

Emily Rucker, Alexis Knisely and Bella Leonetti had assists while Jadia Kershaw made one save in the Pioneer goal.

GIRLS GOLF

Olentangy Berlin’s Mia Raines fired a 77 to finish tied for sixth among individuals at Monday’s Division I sectional tournament at Westchester, punching a ticket to the upcoming district showcase in the process.

The Bears finished fifth as a team with a combined 365.

Other Berlin scorers included Reagan Clifton (93), Iva Horman (97) and Izzy Borgstrom (98).
