Patriots, Golden Eagles compete at district tourney

The Olentangy Liberty boys golf team was among the top couple of squads at the turn, but finished tied for fourth when all was said and done at the Division I district boys golf tournament Tuesday at Apple Valley.

The Patriots got 75s from Jackson Harris and Carter Rutherford, a 79 from Noah Andry and an 80 from Carson Meyer on the way to a combined 309 — a mark that tied them with Dublin Coffman, just two strokes away from state qualification.

Dublin Jerome and Upper Arlington both advanced with 307s while St. Charles won the district title with an even 300.

St. Charles’ Leo Walling and Worthington Kilbourne’s Owen Cotterman led all individuals, nabbing medalist honors with 67s.

Cotterman was the first of three individual state qualifiers. DeSales’ Vaughn Harber (70) and Mount Vernon’s Ben Bridges (73) were the others.

Big Walnut was also in action, finishing ninth with a 330. Tyler Goetzman led the Golden Eagles, finishing tied for 13th among individuals wit a 77. Other BW scorers included Ethan Krebs (79), Nathan Tripp (85) and Mason Rush (89).

Olentangy’s John McClelland competed as well, finishing tied for 37th among individuals with an 80.

GIRLS SOCCER

Olentangy Orange put the finishing touches on an OCC-Central Division championship Tuesday night in Powell, blanking host Olentangy Liberty 3-0 thanks to a balanced effort on both sides of the ball.

Lauryn Barringer, Alexis Knisely and Kaitlyn Colvert scored for the Pioneers while Kaelyn Valleau had all three assists.

Jadia Kershaw and the defense took care of the rest. She collected three saves en route to securing the shutout.

Olentangy 2, Marysville 0

Olivia Heskett scored a pair of goals, both in the final five minutes, to lead the Braves to an OCC-Cardinal Division win over visiting Marysville Tuesday night in Lewis Center.

Macy Boysel had one save to anchor the Braves’ defense.

BOYS SOCCER

Carson Cutler and Drew Neville found the back of the net to lead Olentangy Orange to a solid OCC-Central Division win over visiting Olentangy Liberty Tuesday night in Lewis Center.

Jake Barnhart recorded the shutout in the Pioneer goal.

Also: Canal Winchester 4, Big Walnut 0.
