Buckeye Valley rolled games of 891, 977 and 903, but failed to make it out of the qualifying round during Friday’s Division I State Boys Bowling Tournament at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The Barons, just like the BV girls team did in last weekend’s Division II state showcase, finished 15th among the 16 state-qualifying teams. They coupled their regulation total of 2,771 with a three-game baker total of 518 to closed with a combined 3,228.

Junior Jimmy Davis led a balanced Buckeye Valley effort, finishing with games of 161, 222 and 200 for a combined 583 — a mark good enough for 60th among individuals. Other BV contributors included Leo Wells (575), Jacob Moeslein (569) and Nick Cooper (560). The team’s four top scorers were within 11 places of each other as Cooper finished 71st among individuals. Jacob Man also chipped in, rolling a 162 in his lone game.

Huber Heights Wayne, which was fourth during qualifying with a combined 3,823, beat Wapakoneta in the team finals to capture the state championship.
