Braves, Patriots, Pioneers win early-season tourneys

The Olentangy boys golf team picked up its second straight top-two finish to start the season, this time winning the Pickerington Central Invitational with a 297 Monday afternoon at Turnberry Golf Course.

Matthew Homza and Cameron Casto fired the second- and third-best rounds of the day, carding respective rounds of 70 and 72.

Other Olentangy contributors included Ben Nash (76), Garrett Varanelli (79), Garrett Leckrone (79) and Bennett Zeitner (85).

“The boys had a plan, stuck to it and got some putts to drop,” Braves coach Joel Glassburn said.

Central Crossing’s Caleb Davern nabbed medalist honors with a round of 67 while Hilliard Bradley and St. Charles joined the Braves in the top three with respective team scores of 312 and 318.

Patriot Cup

The Olentangy Liberty boys golf team kicked off the inaugural Patriot Cup in style, taking top honors with a combined 304 Monday at Kinsale.

The Patriots’ Trey Rath nabbed medalist honors with a 71.

North Union Invitational

The Buckeye Valley boys golf team carded a combined 341 to finish fourth in the North Union Invitational Monday at Glenross.

Jake Kehoe led the Barons with a 74. Zach Thomson also finished in the 70s, firing a 77.

GIRLS GOLF

Ashley Au and Riley Dean fired 77s to lead the Olentangy Orange girls golf team to a combined 328 at Monday’s Lexington Invitational — a mark good enough to capture the team title for the second straight season.

Brittany Miller (80), Emily Fisher (94) and Rachael Nobile (96) also chipped in.
