The Olentangy Liberty boys golf team continued its stellar start to the season Wednesday, winning its third straight tournament thanks to a 295 in the Westerville Central Invitational at the Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Three days, three first-place finishes, three different leaders.
While Trey Rath and Kyle Mitchell led the Patriots with respective rounds of 71 and 69 in the first two matches of the season — Monday’s Patriot Cup and Tuesday’s OCC event at Turnberry — Cole Corder set the tone with a team-low 73 in Wednesday’s win.
Mitchell, Jacob Hickman and Rath all chipped in 74s while Ronnie Foth added a 79 to smooth out Liberty’s scoring summary.
Olentangy, another hot team through a handful of tournaments, was also in action. The Braves struggled a bit, finishing with a 327 — their worst round of the season — to close 10th.
Garrett Varanelli led the way with a 79 while Ben Nash (81), Cameron Casto (83), Garrett Leckrone (84) and Matthew Homza (85) also contributed.
GIRLS GOLF
The first OCC match of the season, played Wednesday at the Links at Groveport, featured a little of everything for area teams.
The best combined effort among the four Delaware County squads in action belonged to Olentangy Orange, which fired a combined 329. Ashley Au led the way with a 74, Riley Dean followed with a solid 79, Brittany Miller finished with an 87, Emily Fisher carded an 89 and Rachael Nobile had a 98.
Olentangy was also solid, finishing with a 348 on the strength of Leila Raines and Alex Cardi’s respective rounds of 78 and 81. Kara Raines was also steady, finishing with an 85 thanks in part to her hole-in-one on the ninth. The ace was the second in program history and the first of her career.
Maddie Gwinn (104) and Sierra Cardi (116) smoothed out the Braves’ cumulative scorecard.
Olentangy Liberty and Delaware Hayes were also in action.
The Patriots finished with a combined 364. Kavya Manocha led the way with an 80 while Priyasha Kota fired an 83.
The Pacers, meanwhile, finished with a 408. Bailey Hager led the way with a team-low 93.
