For the first time all season, Liberty’s boys golf team didn’t win a tournament.

The Patriots did manage a pretty decent consolation prize though – a top-three showing – beating out the likes of New Albany, Dublin Jerome, Upper Arlington and St. Xavier to close third in Thursday’s Eagle Invitational at New Albany Links Golf Course.

“We encountered some course management issues today,” Liberty coach Ryan Snivley said. “It’s early in the season, so I hope we will learn from our mistakes.”

The Patriots fired a combined 308. St. Charles won the team title with a 293 while Centerville finished second with an even 300.

Trey Rath was the low man for Liberty, finishing with a 71. Other Patriot contributors included Kyle Mitchell (74), Cole Corder (80), Jacob Hickman (83) and Ronnie Foth (84).

Olentangy closed with the second-best showing among the four Delaware County teams in action, finishing 12th with a team total of 323.

Cameron Casto led the Braves with a 75 while Garrett Varanelli carded a 77, Matthew Homza fired an 84, Tanner Shimp finished with an 87 and Bennett Zeitner closed with a 105.

Orange and Big Walnut were also in action, finishing 21st and 22nd with respective scores of 334 and 337.

Spencer Gifford paced the Pioneers with a 76. Other Orange contributors included Alex Cabungcal (80), Connor Cummins (89), Sam English (89) and Nate English (90).

The Golden Eagles’ cumulative scorecard included Austin Schone’s 78, Parker Imertreijs’ 83, Connor Walzak’s 86 and Henry von Hollen’s 90. Trevor Dew had a 97 as the BW fifth man.

FROM WEDNESDAY

The Buckeye Valley boys golf team nabbed a middle-of-the-pack finish Wednesday at Darby Creek, firing a 364 to finish 8th in the Fairbanks Invitational.

Jake Kehoe led the Barons with an 81 while Zach Thomson had a 90, Mitchell Lucas closed with a 96 and Nick Baesman had a 97.
