Sophomore Lex Brookshire captured top individual honors, crossing the finish line in 20:29 to lead Olentangy’s girls cross country team to an impressive win at the Erin Nance Invitational Monday in London.

The Braves finished with 25 points. Grove City nabbed runner-up honors with 64 while Olentangy Liberty finished third with 68.

Brookshire was the headliner, but the entire Olentangy team left London with plenty to be proud of. Five different Braves finished in the top 10, including Melina Endsley (third, 20:37), Piper Biziorek (fourth, 20:47), Katie Slyh (eighth, 21:04) and Seville Davis (21:14).

Hayes junior Ashley Woller also had quite an afternoon, crossing the finish line second among the 82 runners in action (20:31). The Pacers finished fifth in the six-team meet with 115 points.

Other top Hayes contributors included Grace Fowler (25th, 23:49), MaryBeth Zimmerman (27th, 24:27) and Cailey Franklin (29th, 24:41).

Liberty didn’t have anyone in the top 10, but earned its third-place position thanks to a consistent effort. The Patriots’ top four runners — Anna Bower, Lily Biros, Sarah Colvin and Lauren Buddie — finished within just more than a minute of each other, capturing spots 10-13. Bower finished in 21:16, Biros closed in 21:39, Colvin crossed the line in 21:46 and Buddie finished in 22:14.

In boys’ action, Olentangy finished third and Hayes closed fifth.

Anthony Sasso led the Braves, closing third in 16:24.

Other Olentangy standouts included Alex Garner (10th, 17:35), Zach Balthaser (14th, 17:44), Carter Schaefer (18th, 17:59) and Cullen Sainey (21st, 18:19).

The Pacers, meanwhile, were powered by their top two runners — Justin Hernan and Seth Kern, both seniors. Hernan finished fifth in 17:12 while Kern closed right behind him with a sixth-place effort of 17:12.

Other top Hayes contributors included Marquis Willis (26th, 18:38), Avery Latta (42nd, 19:59) and Lucas Pape (43rd, 20:03).

BOYS SOCCER

Buckeye Valley didn’t have any trouble with East Knox Monday, cruising to an 8-0 non-league win.

Anthony Seliskar, who finished with a hat trick, scored two of the Barons’ five first-half goals. He opened the scoring in the third minute and, after Brennan Perrine made it 2-0 off a feed from Nathan Chwalik just a minute later, padded the lead in the sixth minute.

BV led 4-0 when Brendan Miller scored in the 10th minute and never looked back. Perrine scored his second goal in the second half while Bill Daily and Caleb King also scored in the win.

Buckeye Valley finished with an 18-0 edge in shots.

VOLLEYBALL

Down 2-1 heading into the fourth set, Olentangy picked up the pace to outlast visiting Mount Vernon in non-league action Monday in Lewis Center.

The Braves won the first set 25-21 before dropping the second and third by respective scores of 17-25 and 19-25.

They controlled the fourth set, winning 25-17, but had to rally big time in the fifth. Down 11-14, Olentangy scored five straight points to seal the deal by a 16-14 margin.

“Maris Kaiser served five in a row and the team played flawlessly for five straight points to earn the win,” Braves coach Michelle Mimna said.

Other Olentangy (13-5, 7-1 OCC) standouts included Olivia Margolies (19 kills and 16 digs), Nhu Do (eight kills), Lexie Weithman (27 digs), Madyson Chitty (15 digs) and Gabby Trees (14 digs and 22 assists).
