Christina Baumann wasn’t the first option, but she certainly turned out to be the best option as her three-pointer at the overtime buzzer sent Olentangy to a thrilling 56-54 OCC-Captial Division win over host New Albany Friday night.

“She wasn’t the first option, but she was one of the options,” Braves head coach John Feasel said. “Kelly Meade was our first option, Olivia Margolies was our second option and Big-Shot Baum was our third. I’ve been calling her that for three years now … and I’m glad Big-Shot Baum took that shot.”

Down two late in the extra session, Margolies finished off a three-point play to give Olentangy (5-1, 5-0 OCC) a 53-52 lead. New Albany’s Caitlyn Coss answered with a hoop on her team’s next trip up the floor and the Braves, after failing to get the look they wanted, called a timeout with 4.6 seconds left.

Baumann took care of the rest.

The senior finished with eight points in the win while Meade scored 14 to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. Molly Delaney also had a big game for Olentangy, finishing with 13 points.

Coss finished with a game-high 17 points for the Eagles, who stayed in the game at the free throw line. New Albany had 27 attempts to Olentangy’s 10, cashing in on 19 of them.

Liberty 64, Westland 37

The Patriots, up just 9-6 after the first quarter, outscored the host Cougars 23-5 in the second quarter on the way to a lopsided 64-37 OCC-Central Division win Friday in Galloway.

Lauren Hofer led Liberty (7-0, 5-0 OCC) with 21 points while Sydney Englehart and Alexa Fisher finished with eight apiece.

Orange 45, Hayes 30

The Pacers and Pioneers were locked in a battle, with host Orange up by a slim 30-28 margin heading into the final period.

That all changed in the fourth, though, as the Pioneers used a 15-2 game-ending run to seal the deal in OCC-Capital Division action Friday in Lewis Center.

Bree McCague finished with a game-high 11 points for the Pioneers.

Madison Eldridge led the Pacers with 10 points while Brandy Bauer finished with nine.

Buckeye Valley 45, Jonathan Alder 40

Kelsey Shearer only had six points, but made a handful of huge plays down the stretch to lead the Barons to a 45-40 MOAC-Red Division win over visiting Jonathan Alder Friday in Delaware.

“Kelsey only had six points, but did a lot of the intangibles,” BV coach Landon Fraker said. “She did a great job on defense. She took a charge when they got within one and, when we were up three with 17 seconds to go, jumped a passing lane and dribbled down and scored to end the game … I can’t say enough about her hard work and what she did tonight. She just made plays at the end of the game to get us a win.”

Logan Hatcher led Buckeye Valley with a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Alaina Radcliffe finished with 11 points in the win.

Mount Vernon 55, Big Walnut 38

Nine different Golden Eagles scored, but none had the type of night the Jackets’ Taylor Gregory had Friday in Mount Vernon.

Gregory finished with a game-high 25 points to carry Mount Vernon, which used a 20-12 second-quarter surge to build some separation.

Katie Cochran led Big Walnut with nine points.
