The Olentangy girls basketball team outscored visiting Worthington Kilbourne 28-6 in the middle two quarters and cruised to its 20th consecutive OCC-Capital victory Tuesday in Lewis Center.
It took a little bit from everybody for Olentangy in its 51-30 win over Kilbourne, but no one scored in double figures.
“Our goal every year is to win our league,” Olentangy coach John Feasel said. “Last year we went undefeated and this year we’re 6-0. We just need to keep at it.”
Freshman Olivia Margolies had herself a well-rounded performance. She tied for the team lead with eight points and six rebounds and added a game-high five blocks.
“Olivia Margolies is starting to play not like a freshman,” Feasel said. “She’s a force down there (in the paint).”
“I love the way she hustled,” senior captain Allison Raiff said.
Raiff also scored eight points and dished out a couple of assists for Olentangy (6-1, 6-0 OCC).
“We didn’t give up at all,” Raiff said. “We made good passes to each other and really looked for the open pass. We worked it around and got a good shot.”
Chelsea Moore pitched in six points, six boards and a couple of steals for Olentangy.
Kelly Meade was honored before for becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer.
She scored 14 points in Olentangy’s 56-54 victory at New Albany Friday to pass Morgan Horvath as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Horvath scored 1,090 career points for Olentangy. She now plays at Miami University in Oxford.
Horvath and Meade became the first two in program history to score more than 1,000 points last season. Meade passed the 1,000-point milestone in Olentangy’s 58-43 loss to Gahanna-Lincoln in a district final last season.
She was held to five points, but banked in a three-pointer in the second quarter to help Olentangy outscore the Wolves 17-4.
“We celebrated her breaking the record — she’s our all-time leading scorer and she scored five points and we win by 21,” Feasel said. “We have a lot of players that can score. (Kelly and Molly Delaney) can have bad nights and we’re going to be OK.”
Delaney only scored four points, but she contributed a team-high four assists and had four rebounds. She broke her nose in the New Albany game and was wearing a mask, which Feasel said affected her shooting.
“She was wearing that mask for the first time and that was throwing her shot off,” Feasel said. “(Her nose) got smashed right into the ground (at New Albany). She was dealing with (the mask) for the first time. We didn’t even have it at practice. She just needs to get used to playing and wearing that.”
Christina Baumann also banked in a three in the second and finished with six points.
Olentangy outscored Kilbourne (5-3, 5-1) 11-2 in the third quarter, thanks in part to a pair of baskets on consecutive possessions, assisted by Margolies and Baumann, respectively.
Maggie Crozier led all scorers with 11 points for the Wolves. She was the only player to score in double figures. She also pulled down four rebounds.
Julia Tout and Jordyn Wilson each had eight points for Kilbourne. Tout had a game-high seven rebounds as well.
Olentangy heads to the KSA Events Holiday Basketball Tournament and will open with Owasso (OK) Monday at 12:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be great,” Feasel said. “It’s a good chance for us to go down and play different teams from all around the country and have a good time during the winter.”
