The Olentangy Liberty boys lacrosse team started well, opening up a 5-4 lead by the break, but saw host Academy New Church win the second half 5-2 to notch a 9-7 win Monday in Philadelphia.

The Patriots were boosted by Griffin Hughes, who finished with a game-best four goals. Vince Ramondelli, Ethan Donelson and John Paolo found the back of the net once apiece to smooth out the scoring summary.

Liberty led 5-2 when Paolo scored midway through the second, but ANC scored the next four goals, two to end the second quarter and two more to start the third, to take a 6-5 lead.

Donelson got the Patriots back on track with his first career varsity goal, but they didn’t score again until Hughes scored the game’s final goal with one minute to play.

The duo of Thomas Fitzgerald and Skylar Wahlund collected a combined 20 saves while spitting time in the Liberty goal.

Academy New Church used a balanced attack to get the job done, finishing with three multi-goal scorers in the win.
