The Delaware Hayes softball team got back to its winning ways Wednesday, scoring in all six plate appearances on the way to an 11-1 six-inning win over visiting Licking Heights in its home opener.
The Pacers (1-1) scored two runs in the first and another two in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. They added a run in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to smooth out the scoring summary.
Amaia Daniel, Mallory Stonebraker and Audrey Hannah combined for seven hits and knocked in three runs apiece. Lexi Mattix was also solid in the win, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Alex Armstrong chipped in two hits of her own.
Haley Osborne picked up the win in the circle, allowing just the one run on three hits in six innings of work.
Big Walnut 9, Worthington Kilbourne 5
The Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits on the way to a season-opening win over the visiting Wolves Wednesday in Sunbury.
Jojo Lucas and Taryn Hammond combined for six of the knocks, three apiece, with Lucas finishing with a team-best three RBI and Hammond closing with three runs scored.
Stacey Walters and Emma Schwinne were both 2-f0r-3 in the win, with Walters scoring twice.
The game was tied 1-1 until Big Walnut erupted for four runs in the fourth and another four in the fifth.
Walters picked up the complete-game win in the circle, allowing five runs (four earned) on 12 hits while striking out six and walking six.
Olentangy 8, Dublin Scioto 7
Morgan Cox picked a good time to collect her one and only hit of the game, doubling home Olivia Gregory with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Braves to a non-league win over the visiting Irish Wednesday in Lewis Center.
Olentangy (2-1) was up 4-0 after one and 7-2 heading into the late innings, but Scioto scored five in the fifth to tie things up.
Payton Cox and Sydney Wagner led the Braves with two hits apiece while Kristen Bartel finished with two runs and two RBI.
Payton Cox picked up the win in relief, tossing the final 2.2 innings.
Central Crossing 5, Orange 0
Alyssa Laisure and Raelynn Bishop collected hits, but they were the only two the Pioneers could muster in Wednesday’s non-league loss to the host Comets.
Central Crossing plated runs in the first and third to take a 2-0 lead. It added two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to seal the deal.
