BW stays hot with win over Falcons

Alex Thomas and Jess Coletta sparked the offense and Stacey Walters anchored the defense as the Big Walnut softball team rolled to a 13-0, six-inning win over Franklin Heights Tuesday in Columbus.

Thomas did damage every time she strolled to the plate, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and a home run. She also drove in a pair and scored four times. Coletta was also 4-for-4 with a double, homer, two RBI and two runs scored.

Walters, meanwhile, picked up the win in the circle. She allowed just four hits while striking out 10 in the complete-game win. She also helped herself with a pair of hits.

Big Walnut (14-6) opened the scoring summary with a two-run second. The Eagles added four in the third, another in the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Other BW standouts included Alexyss Bullock, who was 3-for-4 with a homer, double, three RBI and three runs scored; and Emma Schwinne, who had two hits and two RBI in the win.

Worthington Christian 7, Olentangy 3

The Braves scored two in the first and another in the third, but visiting Worthington Christian erupted for seven runs in the sixth en route to a non-league win Tuesday in Lewis Center.

Sydney Wagner and Kristen Bartel knocked in runs for Olentangy.

Galion 11, Buckeye Valley 10

The Barons scored five runs in the sixth to take a late lead, but the host Tigers plated the equalizer in the bottom half and scored again in the seventh to seal the deal Tuesday afternoon.

Olivia Schick led BV with a pair of doubles to go with five RBI and two runs scored. Logan Hatcher and Rylee George were also solid, finishing with three hits apiece.

Also: East Knox 13, Delaware Christian 0, 5 inn.; Westerville Central 7, Liberty 2.

BASEBALL

Big Walnut scored three runs in the first and plated seven in the sixth to wrap up a lopsided 10-0, six-inning win over visiting Newark Tuesday in Sunbury.

Jake Foster finished 3-for-3 with four RBI while Connor Gerren, Noah Sprowls and Parker Imertreijs collected two hits apiece.

Austin Krinn picked up the win, allowing just two hits while striking out five in 4.1 innings of work.

Hayes 10, Franklin Heights 0, 5 inn.

Garrett Price tossed a complete-game one hitter and was just as effective at the plate to lead the Pacers to a convincing non-league win Tuesday in Delaware.

Price, who struck out four on the mound, helped himself with a pair of hits, three RBI and two runs scored from the plate.

Dominic Byers and Mason J. Davis each had two hits as well.

Orange 9, Westerville South 0

Tyler Brown and Zach Stiteler hit solo homers and Jason Schutte struck out 10 en route to a two-hit shutout to lead the Pioneers to a solid league win Tuesday in Westerville.

Logan Moss was also steady, finishing with two doubles and three RBI.

BOYS TENNIS

Buckeye Valley won four courts and was winning the fifth before rain ended Tuesday’s showdown against host Jonathan Alder a little early.

Officially, the Barons wound up with a 4-0 win.

BV winners included Nick Roden (6-3, 6-3 at first singles), Ben Swanger (6-0, 6-3 at second singles), Nick Baesman (6-0, 6-1 at third singles) and the team of Mitchell Garnett and Kyle Baseman (5-7, 6-4, 1-0 at first doubles).

Jake Kehoe and Erik Naslund were up 6-4, 4-3 when their match at second doubles was called.
