Olentangy, Orange solid at Kent Miller Invitational

The Olentangy boys golf team fired a solid sub-300 round to finish third at Saturday’s Kent Miller Colonial Invitational at Hiawatha Golf Course.

The Braves, who finished with a 299, were led by Luke Boerner, who carded a 71 — the fourth-best mark among individuals. Bryce Reed closed with a 74, Cam Casto and Trey Wilson finished with 77s and Garrett Leckrone smoothed out the team’s scoring summary with a 91.

Olentangy Orange finished close behind, tied for fourth with a combined 309.

Sam English paced the Pioneers with a 76, Connor Cummins had a 77 and Jonathan Green, Alex Cabungcal and Nate English each fired 78s.

Big Walnut and Hayes were also in action.

The Golden Eagles, led by Michael Ford’s 75, finished with a combined 331. The Pacers, meanwhile, led by Ben Madden’s 83, closed with a 362.

GIRLS GOLF

Saturday’s Midwest Classic was delayed by an hour due to storms, but that didn’t throw the Olentangy Orange girls golf team off one bit.

The Pioneers, who won the tournament with a combined 296, had three players among the top seven individuals.

Ashley Au nabbed medalist honors with a 68 while Riley Dean shot a 72, Natalia Sompolvorachai finished with a 76, Alyssa Kim closed with an 80 and Emily Fisher smoothed out the team’s scoring summary with a 96.

VOLLEYBALL

Delaware Hayes split a pair of matches to start the season Saturday.

The Pacers knocked off Buckeye Valley 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 and fell to host Highland 24-26, 20-25, 14-25.

Julia Kaylor led the way with 14 kills in the win over BV. Sydney Krewson was also solid, finishing with nine kills, while Lauryn Rocassin chipped in a team-best 21 assists and four aces.

Audrey Hannahs anchored the defense with 19 digs while Kaylor added 17.

Ally James, Rocassin and Kaylor led the way against Highland, finishing with six kills apiece.

Highland knocked off Buckeye Valley 25-3, 25-21, 25-13.

Also: Orange def. Hilliard Darby 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.

BOYS SOCCER

Delaware Christian opened the season with a solid 2-0 non-league win against host Northridge Saturday.

Isaac Rindfuss found the back of the net to break a scoreless tie early in the second half. Keenan Siebert then added a little insurance off a feed from Cole Petersimes in the 76th minute.

Also: Orange 3, Watkins Memorial 0.

GIRLS SOCCER

Six different Barons scored a combined seven goals to lead Buckeye Valley to a 7-0 non-league win over host Amanda-Clearcreek Saturday afternoon.

Daelynn Rosser was the squad’s lone multi-goal scorer while Lauren Lewis, Megan Hon, Veronika Legg, Liz Gedde and Hannah Cowan also scored.

Cameron Crawford finished with five saves in the BV net.
