Pacers, Golden Eagles win early-season showdowns

The Delaware Hayes girls tennis team picked up a solid non-league win Monday, knocking off visiting River Valley 4-1.

Renae Haferman and Grace Martin picked up the Pacers’ singles wins. Haferman beat the Vikings’ Grace Payne 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and Martin handled Gurlene Kharia 7-5, 6-2 at third singles.

Hayes swept the doubles courts to smooth out the scoring summary. Paris Knipp and Erika Johnson combined to beat Mercedes Smith and Baily Shoff 6-3, 6-3 at first doubles while Sarah Midura and Serena Ishwar beat Sarah Fohl and Sophia Thompson 7-5, 6-0 at second doubles.

Big Walnut 4, Westerville North 1

The Golden Eagles continued their solid start to the season, handling the visiting Warriors in non-league action Monday in Sunbury.

Golden Eagle winners included Macie Kercsmar at first singles (6-1, 6-0), Lindsay Hill at second singles (6-1, 6-0), Katie Germann and Kayleigh Cummins at first doubles (6-3, 7-5) and the duo of Maria Boyer and Lexie Kirkpatrick at second doubles (6-4, 6-1).
