Erin McCullough picked up another double-double, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Delaware Christian girls basketball team to a 38-34 non-league win over visiting New Hope Christian Monday in Delaware.
“We struggled scoring tonight, but we were strong in the fourth quarter on defense, holding them to three points,” DCS coach Jackie Boggs said.
The Eagles led 13-9 after the first quarter, but saw New Hope Christian bounce back with a 14-10 second to even the game at 23 heading into halftime.
Both teams came out and scored eight points in the third quarter before DCS won the fourth 7-3 to smooth out the scoring summary.
Elizabeth Blackburn backed McCullough with 12 points and seven rebounds while Liz Sullivan added two points and four boards, Olivia House chipped in two points and five assists and Madie Morgan finished with two points, three assists and two steals.
BOWLING
Buckeye Valley’s boys stayed perfect and the girls picked up another win as the Baron bowling teams swept away host Highland Monday in Mount Vernon.
The boys won … but barely. Led by Jimmy Davis’ 389 series (games of 200 and 189), BV outlasted Highland 2,064-2,058.
“The boys held on for a win to stay undefeated, but it was not pretty,” Buckeye Valley coach Madonna Wells said. “All I can say is they came out with a win. It was not our best, but in the end a win is a win.”
Jacob Moeslein backed Davis with games of 189 and 178, Nick Cooper added efforts of 181 and 167, Jacob Man finished with a 169, Tony Ruark rolled a 163, Leo Wells finished with a 159 and Spencer Milligan chipped in a 126.
The girls, led by Morgan Stuart’s 421 series (games of 208 and 213), found their form after a slow start.
“The girls started off behind in the first game, but came back to get the win,” Wells said. “These girls still have a lot of fight and they hate to lose, so they really push themselves when they are behind.”
Other BV contributors included Carly Kelley, who had games of 171 and 176; Fiona Tseng, who rolled games of 138 and 112; Tara McClure, who finished with a 160; Sydney Lenart, who had a 145; Madi Shearer, who chipped in a 130; and Trinity Smith, who had a 110.
The Baron bowlers return to action today against Elgin at Blue Fusion. Action is set to start at 4 p.m.
