Liberty, Buckeye Valley girls win invitationals

Each of the Olentangy Liberty girls cross country team’s top five runners finished in the top 30, leading the Patriots to the team title at Saturday’s Eisenhart Invitational.

Gracie Sprankle and Emma Bower made the most noise, finishing first and third in respective times of 17:59.43 and 18:20.88.

Other Liberty standouts included Linnea Kunesh (17th in 19:29.81), Audrey Piero (21st in 19:45.97) and Lauren Woodruff (27th in 20:00.38).

The Patriots captured the crown with a combined 62 points. Hilliard Davidson finished second with a team total of 67 while Gahanna Lincoln smoothed out the top three with 130.

Olentany Orange, Big Walnut and Delaware Hayes were also in action.

The Pioneers, led by Allison Guagenti’s runner-up showing (18:16.74), finished fifth with 155 points. Lindsay Ott (12th in 19:21.13) and Zoe Bond (16th in 19:28.68) also nabbed top-20 finishes.

The Golden Eagles finished 15th with 438 points. Leksi Murnieks led BW (61st in 20:55.11).

The Pacers, meanwhile, finished 20th among the 23 teams in the varsity race. Lauren English had Hayes’ best performance, finishing 68th in 20:59.67.

Marion Harding Invitational

Freshman Chloe Dawson cruised to an individual title and her teammates did pretty well, too, combining to win the team championship at Saturday’s Marion Harding Invitational.

Dawson took top honors with an effort of 18:36. Chayse Arnhold (11th in 20:28.4), Ashley Beatty (14th in 20:39.7), Lane Graham (18th in 21:00.9) and Bailey Kreft (19th in 21:05.1) also nabbed top-20 finishes for the Barons, who closed with 59 points.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Joseph Johnson III finished 10th (16:20.94) and Nicholas Anderson crossed the line 19th (16:39.33) to lead Liberty to runner-up honors at Saturday’s Eisenhart Invitational.

The Patriots, who also got solid showings from Logan Boone (31st in 16:52.59), Adam Clark (43rd in 17:02.75) and Nick Irelan (49th in 17:05.60), closed with a combined 147 points — a mark second only to first-place Thomas Worthington’s 85.

Orange, powered by Andrew Schroff’s top-10 effort (seventh in 16:07.33), finished fourth with 155 points. Tommy Wintering (12th in 16:23.96) also had a good day.

Big Walnut, led by Jacob Hutchinson (107th in 17:52.20), finished 23rd with 637 points while Hayes finished 26th with 825. Avery Latta led the Pacers, finishing 175th in 18:41.04.

Marion Harding Invitational

Zach Kreft continued his dominant senior season winning Saturday’s Marion Harding Invitational while leading Buckeye Valley to a second-place finish as a team.

BV’s Gavin Shearer (10th in 16:50.3), Bill Daily (14th in 17:03.5) and Jacob Zinn (20th in 17:16.1) also finished in the top 20.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lexi Schone and Emma Padgett found the back of the net to give Big Walnut a 2-1 non-league win over visiting Olentangy Saturday in Sunbury.

BOYS SOCCER

Chris Zaragoza scored the game’s lone goal to lead Big Walnut to a 1-0 non-league win over host Granville on Saturday.
